My “op-ed” article User Experience for Economic Success and Social Impact was published in the OhioX Idea Hub yesterday (March 4, 2020).
As I said when OhioX launched in December, I like the vision of Ohio being a leader in technology and innovation, and I think our state needs to be a leader in user experience to make that a reality.
My main goals for the article:
- Explain user experience in the context of technology and innovation, to an audience focused on that (free of our own jargon). No use of the abbreviation “UX”, describing the difference between UI & UX, and using various technologies as examples.
- Give a few starting points to people who do see the value of user experience but are not sure what it might mean for their organization.
- Provide a foundation for more state-wide conversations about user experience.
I also include non-business examples and “social” references to help people see the full potential.
As an “opinion” piece, it is based a lot on my 30 years of experience, pulled from lots of different places.
I’d be happy to chat about what I wrote in person, on the phone, via email, or comments on Twitter. Clarification on what I meant, going deeper on a specific aspect, and civil disagreement are welcome.
