On April 11, 2018, we had a meetup about user experience skills that will help you make software easier to use, web sites more enjoyable, and apps that solve business problems. It helped people get a start on a new career in UX or just become a better front end designer.

We had debates about the pros and cons of:

  • Communication and storytelling
  • Observation and listening
  • Facilitation and collaboration
  • Research, critiquing, sketching

and more!

Experienced UX practitioners were also invited to join us to challenge the panelists and share their own stories of how they got into a career in UX.

Background material on UX Skills

Keith advocated for Empathy a few years ago, but also mentioned Sketching, Storytelling, Critiquing, Presenting, and Facilitating. There are UX team skills, skills grouped by category like business, communication, and technical, lists of top abilitiescensus results, meta skills, and UX shapes formed around attributes and skills.
