State of UX in Ohio

As the Ohio UX Roundtable, we want to support our community, improve our profession, and increase our impact on industry. We created a survey to help us understand more about UX professionals, educators and overall UX maturity across the state. Here are some of the survey questions for practitioners/managers:

  • Size of UX team and position within the company
  • Job titles and types of UX activities
  • Challenges and areas of excitement

For educators, we ask about the type of degree offered, what is taught in classes, and more challenges/excitement.

We realize this is just a first step: hoping to collect some data, share it, and do more research later with better questions and wider participation. Over time, we hope to compare with other survey results, such as those from within Ohio (like IxDA Cincinnati’s), from other states/cities (like Michigan, Richmond) and national/international ones like the UXPA Salary Survey, NN/g UX Careers, UserZoom report, User Research.

We hope to trigger conversations about UX practice across the state along the way. And eventually get answers to strategic questions like:

  • How many UXers do we have in Ohio? How many do we need to support Ohio as a tech hub?
  • What skills do our practitioners and professionals have? What skills do they need to make Ohio a leader in innovative user experiences?
  • Which types of organizations (manufacturers, healthcare systems, government agencies, etc.) in Ohio are already world leaders in UX capabilities? Which Ohio industries need to up their UX game in order to compete?
  • What foundations of UX (HCI, interaction design, information architecture, etc.) are we already teaching well in Ohio? What can we be leaders in to attract the best students from around the world?

Please spend a few minutes with our first iteration and join us on the journey! (July 31 is the deadline for this iteration.)
