I am ready to exhibit at Drinks x Design in Detroit tonight. If you are reading this as a result of visiting the table, thanks for stopping by!!
If you want to talk more about your organization’s user experience talent, send me an email so we can set up a time to discuss how to start, grow, or mature your UX practice.
If you took the “What is UX Quiz” and are wondering what it might be useful for: use it to guide big picture discussions such as “What is the future of user experience and how can my organization be ready for it?”
- What new ways might your users be experiencing your products or services? Maybe with augmented reality goggles on.
- What new areas of knowledge will your organization need to add expertise in? Maybe museum design or machine learning. What is the best way to learn it?
- What new roles are emerging, such as voice interaction designer, and how do you train or hire for it?
- Should your team become more strategic or more operational as a result?
- What new methods are emerging, which ones should you experiment with on your next project, and which ones should you wait to try later (if at all)?
- How will your entire industry be changing? What will be user experience “table stakes” that you will need to be competent in just to compete? Where will your organization need to define, design and deliver innovative experiences?
- Will UX become more of a buzzword or start to be better understood? How do you brand it within your organization?
Again, send me an email if you want to talk about any or all of this.
Finally, if the Drinks x Design event was your introduction to this strange thing called user experience, then here are the steps to join the UX community in Michigan that I shared:
1. Sign up for the email newsletter at michiganuxpa.org to stay in touch with what is going on about UX across the state.
2. Find a local group on meetup.com that interests you. A few suggestions: Detroit UX, IxDA Grand Rapids, Ladies that UX Detroit, Ignite UX Michigan.
3. Save these dates for major upcoming events:
- September: Dates TBD. Detroit Month of Design will include UX events.
- October 10-12: Midwest UX Conference, Grand Rapids.
- November 14. World Usability Day. Events in Detroit and East Lansing are common.
Hope to see you at some event about user experience in Michigan later this year!
