UX Australia is this week. It is a UX conference from my bucket list. The goal was to attend/speak AND spend a month or so there for work and vacation. Remote participation will have to do for this year. The timing is actually perfect: 7pm to midnight Monday – Thursday for me (morning Tuesday – Friday there). The 4-half-day program is single track, so no need to plan which sessions to pick: just get online and enjoy.
I’ve finished my Spins on User Experience presentation (for Wednesday morning).
One challenge was trimming things down to a less-than-45-minute presentation without direct audience interaction, when the material was designed to be 1-hour+ with many stops for audience comments along the way and possible paths based on Q&A. I will have Zoom polling to engage people a little, but will be hitting just a few themes instead of facilitating a wandering discussion based on audience interests.
Another challenge was localizing for Australia. Early versions of UX Spins were midwest USA focused and it was pretty easy to do a Canadian version. I got some input from colleagues from Australia but it definitely represents a skewed view of their fields of study and UX communities.
Since it will be a whirlwind talk, some attendees may get more out of reviewing the slides after and following links (in the text and for images) to additional resources.
Or maybe UX Australia participants will get some benefit while I hang out in the chat sessions and ask questions over the rest of the conference. Either way, it will be a good 4 evenings for me!
