I added a UX Spins talk for the Toronto CHI group (on July 20th) to my calendar. After experimenting with an online version for IxDA Cincinnati, I wanted another chance to “practice” before UX Australia (where people are actually paying to listen to me, yikes). Plus TorCHI will be a good crowd, more experienced attendees/advanced discussion. I’ve been going to their remote sessions and I enjoy hanging out with them.
I also enjoyed doing research to “Canadianize” the talk. The “Field of Study” slide includes some examples of university programs that lead to a career in UX (spoiler: lots of HCI programs). More surprising was finding “user experience designer” as a “skilled trade” in the National Occupational Classification system.
I’ve also revamped a lot of the flow and grouping of concepts, hopefully telling a better story along the way. Specifically, going a little deeper on the “Impression” spin and new groupings for “activities” and “organizational capability” spins.
Check out the slides I will be using with TorCHI on July 20th. If you can make sense of any of it without the accompanying presentation, then I am always looking for feedback.
