Ohio Magazine wrote an article about BGSU’s Life Design program, which caused me to put the CS usability engineering course in context (on LinkedIn, repeated here).
The “Life Design” commitment was one reason I agreed to teach the decades-old “Usability Engineering” computer science class at BGSU this semester.
I am actively working with people at both design centers to put technology design in this larger context. Design your app, design your career, design your life using similar methods, for example.
Plus, I am starting new conversations with professors in Visual Communication Technology, Graphic Design, Technical Communication, and Entrepreneurship about how to work across academic silos. (Some of these are continuations of 20+ year conversations, actually.)
“Our ultimate goal is that BGSU is graduating students that are innovative problem solvers with a sense of purpose and intentionality that are highly desired in any industry”.
Doing my small part to help BGSU Computer Science students apply human-centered design principles to create innovative technology with a sense of purpose.
Now back to getting ready for next week’s classes…
